そしてそれを通じて人を助けることになる医療の発展などに貢献できるのですね。

用語と表現
application：応募・募集
application は 応募・募集 という意味です。
いくつか派生語があります。
- apply：適用する・当てはめる
- applicant：応募者・志願者
- applicable：当てはまる・適切な・適用される
exploration：探検
exploration は 探検 ですね。
派生語がいくつかあります。
- explore：探検する
- explorer：探検家
take a look at ~：～をちらっと見る
look at ~ は ～を見る ですが、take a look at ~ だと ～をちらっと見る という意味になって、ちらっと というニュアンスが強調されます。
間に close が入って take a close look at ~ だと ～をじっくり見る となります。
push the boundaries of ~：～の限界を押し広げる
boundary が 境界 という意味なので、push the boundaries of ~ で ～の境界を押す → ～の限界を押し広げる となります。
何かを実証することで、能力の限界や知識の領域を押し広げる感じですね。
cutting edge：最先端の
ビジネスの場面でもよく聞きますが、cutting edge で 最先端の という意味です。
cutting edge technology 最先端の技術 と言った使い方をします。
embark on ~：～に乗り出す・従事する
embark は 荷物を積み込む・飛行機や船に乗り込む という意味で、embark on ~ とすると ～に乗り出す・～に着手する・～に従事する となります。
bucket list：死ぬまでにやっておきたいことリスト
映画のタイトルにもありましたが、bucket list で 死ぬまでにやっておきたいことのリスト という意味です。
kick the bucket という表現・慣用句があって、死ぬ・自殺する という意味です。
これは昔、絞首刑や首吊自殺の際にバケツの上に乗って、最後にバケツを蹴るというところからきているのだそうです。
そこから派生して bucket list という表現が生まれたようです。
perk：特典・役得
perk は 特典・役得・臨時収入 という意味です。
例えば、会社で勤めていて役員であれば役員車が使える、というようなものですね。
ちなみに会社の福利厚生は employee benefits と言います。
pave the way for ~：～への道を整備する・下地を作る
pave は 敷く・舗装する という意味なので、pave the way for ~ で ～のための道を舗装する → ～への道を整備する・下地を作る という意味になります。
先達が後進のために道を切り開いて整える感じですね。
